Found on the east coast of Victoria, covering some 400 square kilometres, The Lakes are separated from the sea by a slender strip of coastline known as the Ninety Mile Beach. Like The Lakes, this stunning long white strip of land makes for one of the most pristine and unspoilt beaches in the world.Nine Thousand years ago, a vast system of rivers, lakes, lagoons and islands was enclosed by 140 kilometres of the most secluded, untouched ocean beaches in the world — to create the largest inland waterway system in Australia.
The Lakes’ gentle waters and undisturbed islands provide a haven for a staggering array of wildlife. There is a section of mainland coastline and islands in Victoria which showcases Australia’s fabled native animals. It is the scene of some of the most remarkable event nature has to offer.
